any aftermarket stuff will void warranty on related parts....... i think you can get vw aftermarket kits warrantied if the dealer installs them not sure tho

Possibly......
...depending on the problem. Remember - very few things (other than abuse) will cause a dealer to refuse to do ANY warranty service, but certain mods will cause a dealer to refuse to provide warranty service on related parts.
One other poster painted his side marker bulbs, the paint dripped into the bulb holder, shorted out the holder and damaged part of his wiring harness.
If the dealer believes that your modification has caused another part to fail then he can (and should) refuse to repair the failure under warranty.
If the aftermarket parts you use cause another part to fail then the dealer will refuse to correct that failure under warranty.

if you want smoked sidemarkers, just get them. the chances of you having a warranty issue because of sidemarkers is very small.

Any mods are fine....
...as long as they don't cause other problems. In your case, the smoked side markers (as long as you get the good quality ones that are the correct size and don't let water leak in) will probably be better than any sort of laminate that might melt......
