Three months ago, I got a fair bit of water in the spare tire well and it happened again a few weeks later.
It never happened before nor has it happened since, but it's been bothering me to no end trying to figure out where it came from. The seals are all intact, I did not see a trail of water anywhere, and the hatch closes securely. Also, I've sprayed water all around while washing the car and could not replicate it.
Anyone elese out there that has had this problem, where did the water come from? Clues, ideas, opinions and suggestions welcome.
TIA

I've actually never even used the spare *knocks on wood*. The only reason I even noticed was that the mat felt damp one day.

OH! thinking back to the day i had a deent removed frfom under my taillight...
does it have a sunroof? the roof drains out to the bottom of the car, incase your sunroof is left open in the rain, any water that seeps into the roof can get back out... perhaps the sunroof was vented, or left open an unnoticable crack once during rain?? that would also mean somewhere along the route to the bottom to get out, it got in.
i don't know! really wish i could help you out, i know how frustrating these things can get!! good luck

hmm...i seem to remember having the same problem about 2 years ago. what i did to pinpoint the possible leak was this:
1) take a sponge and lightly dampen the gasket that seals the body against the hatch itself.
2) do the same to the hatch where it will make contact with the gasket.
3) put a liberal amount of baby powder on the gasket.
4) shut the hatch, reopen it, and look on the area of the hatch that made contact with the gasket - if there is any area that doesn't have the powder, it probably isn't sealed at that point.
to remedy this, you simply have to adjust the hinges on the hatch. just loosen the screws with the hatch open, adjust, torque 'em back down, and shut the hatch. eyeball to see if the hatch is straight, and do the talc powder trick again. you can also adjust the latch piece on the body itself in a 'in and out' motion(towards front of car to bring the hatch tighter towards body, or the opposite direction to do the reverse).
sorry if this seems long and comlicated - just wanting to help ya out...i hope it does just that http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Eureka! It does have a sunroof. Now there's a possibility! Anyone know where the sunroof drains?

my understanding was that the sunroof drains into the door jambs from that little black tube/spout just next to the door hinge. i was getting water in my trunk and it was such a PITA. i recently replaced the taillight and viola, no more water. i would check and see that of they spongy gasket between the housing and the car is intact.

That is correct for the front sunroof drains...the rear sunroof drains come out inside the rear bumper, one per side...
