Re: WAXY looking goo under doors??? what is it? (skitch)
First of all, that stuff is NOT Cosmoline!!!
Cosmoline has not been used to protect consumer vehicles when shipping other than some Skoda's and Lada's since before the Korean War.
That stuff you are seeing is the rust preventative, (cavatity wax) applied at the factory.
Anyone who lives in areas where they apply salt to the roads in the winter, should not attempt to remove all of it from the doors hemge flange area, (the seams of the doors, etc)
The reason being, that if the door hits a curb with that area, the cavatity wax will move into the void area and not allow it to corrode.
Cavatity wax is still used, even though the ecoat technology has been used for years, manufacturers found that there is no substitute for the protection it provides.
