Weak Clutches

So I hear that VR6's have hella weak clutches, that means no hard shifting and limit on purpose peeling out. I want to know if over all VW has weak clutch and I should tone down on the hard shifting or am I cool until I get a new clutch later down the line.

Oh one more thing what out cuz VW axels suck. they break extremely easily. Jim from ATP broke his in his 1.8 Turbo with the ATP Stage 3 turbo and racing slicks broke them and had to tow is car quite a long distance.
Re: Weak Clutches (WeedWolfie420)

So they suck because they won't hold 2x the amount they were designed for?
Re: Weak Clutches (WeedWolfie420)

well for VR6 they the clutch sucks stock. But for the 1.8 T I think that it is okay no to get a new clutch until you have around 225 hp to the wheels I think around there out clutches can handle crap.

The stock 1.8T clutch sucks. It is very weak. It also has a pretty heavy dual-mass flywheel. Mine has 27,000 miles and it was starting to go before i got chipped. I can't even break stock 15" all-seasons with a chip in 2nd gear, the clutch is too worn. I am trying to save up for Autotech's light flywheel + SACHS power clutch.

Re: Weak Clutches (One Dub Nut)

Have any of you had any problems in getting into first from neutral. Usually happens in my car at the light just before it turns green and it needs to heat up a little too? Not all the time?! dealer can't find problem!

Re: Weak Clutches (SilverGolf1.8t)

How come I never have these problems? I run bigger slicks and have more power than anyone on here, and no problems with axles...
I would hardly say the axles suck. And the VR6 clutch will hold a fair amount of power. I was launching my car at 6000 rpm with a Stage one clutch masters clutch, which is a stock VR6 disc with a heavier pressure plate, and it held up for quite a while. Only the 24.5" slicks were too much for the clutch.
But still, I have never broken an axle.
Re: Weak Clutches (1.BillyT)

i only have 5000 miles on my 02' jetta. i cannot even get a 2nd scratch. seems real soft. even had a buddy try and he couldnt get a hard shift out of it either. no clamping power
Re: Weak Clutches (1.BillyT)

Come on, with a 12.3, you just aren't driving hard enough to break axles

Maybe a lighter flywheel is easier on the axles when you dump the clutch? I need one to save my @#$!&! synchros.
