bumpers. loose them.
sway bars, toss em out.
exhaust, run a side exhaust with no mufler.
doors, cut out all the strength members from the doors.
trunk floor, cut it out.
Re: Weight Reduction (speed51133)

bwhaha
air conditioner system, the whole thing
airbags, (seriously)
get a carbon fiber hood
take out all the stereo stuff
sound deadening material
Re: Weight Reduction (Civic Slayer)

Remove bumper supports, heater, A/C, glovebox internals, cut every extra peice of metal out, replace stell parts with carbon fiber or fiberglass, change the glass to Lexan, air bags, lighter rims and tires, replace gas tank with a fuel cell.
Re: Weight Reduction (Civic Slayer)

Go on a diet.
Re: Weight Reduction (Wild Monkey)

A slim Fast for Breakfast and Lunch and then eat a sensible Dinner. Bawwwww!
Anything that is not needed can go, chop the roof and wear googles. No doors, trunk lid, dash, ah, on the other hand just buy a bike.
Re: Weight Reduction (Civic Slayer)

Something that a lot of people forget is to go with a 1/4 tank or much less of fuel.
Re: Weight Reduction (Distinct)

if your doing this because you really want to race your car on a circuit try going to a race prep shop, ill refer you to mine if you want but if it just for street, there's no point. The car weighs that much for a reason there is nothing you can do. If you lose all that stuff mentioned your throughing away the $ spent on the car plus the functionality. If you just want to go to the strip on thw wkn. just go with less gas and maybe leave your sub box @ home or take out the spare and any other lose items. When you start gettin ginto serious racing then worry about those other things
Re: Weight Reduction (JKR)

If you really want a light car for racing, I'd suggest getting an A2 or A1 and getting either a 1.8T or a built 16V in it. The MK4's are pretty portly, but then again, try and see how many REALLY light cars have good crash ratings and a beautiful interior. Unless you have a car with very exotic materials is it, it's not possible.
If you are doing drag racing here's a few tips. Over inflate the rear tires, less friction is better for tires that aren't really doing anything. Like Distinct said, don't use a full tank of gas. If you can, remove the windshield washer fluid from the tank (sounds dumb, but every little bit helps)
That's strictly for racing though. Don't try over inflated tires on the street, they'll wear out fast. Same for the WW fluid, self explanitory.

Re: Weight Reduction (vertigobora)

for the street or track?
if your talking street, it's pointless. Take out the rear seat...
or, sell the car, buy a bike.

sorry, a lil off...

Dunno how safe the MR2 Spyder is...but it is less than 2200 pounds before any reduction! That's pretty light...
Re: Weight Reduction (wolfier)

Get the RPI/Wilwood 13" front brake kit... save 25 lbs and have better brakes to boot!!
Re: Weight Reduction (drli)

Get 16" wheels with sticky rubber.....ie. SO3's...
actually P7000 are the lightest.....
that alone can save you....umm....40 pounds....from 18's or maybe like 20-25 pounds from 17s
