Weird noise from my Golf

Ok I got a 87 VW Golf GL Auto. every so often when i get into it after school start her up and drive away she wolnt shift out of 1st. and wolnt go past 3,000 rpm. she also makes a noise kinda like when you blow bubbles in your chocolate milk when you were a kid. its deeper though. after she warms up the sound goes away and she shifts just fine. any thoughts on what it is? I only paid $56 for her and i dont want to put alot of time or money into her.

I am guessing maybe your tranny oil is to thick or old thats my guess

i will check that today.. we never replaced it when i bought my car. the previous 2 owners didnt take good care of her.
