Okay, here's the background info (mind you, it's like 30 degrees outside)
1. Started my car, cold
2. Drove 50 feet to wait for a friend to get out of her dorm, put car in park.
3. While waiting, I heard a thumping sound coming from the trunk area. It sounded very pattern like, that is, it was sparadic. It thumped like 10 times in a row, stopped for 30 seconds, and thumped again a couple more times.
Is this a strut "giving away"?
Is this something seriously broken?
Could it be from my neuspeed sawybar?

I get that thumping noise, too. I still haven't been able to locate it, but it's just like you described it. Still, my Jetta's been doing that for two years now with no problems associated with the mysterious thumps.

The search function is your friend... when it works...
This was discussed last month, IIRC. Something to do with the fuel tank pressurizing or something.

I was told it was the exhaust pipe heating the fuel tank and it expanding.... but I don't believe it.

ya i was told it was sth to do with the gas tank too...
i dun remember which car it was, but it had that problem
