I'm looking to purchase an A2 Jetta, and there is someone selling a GLI for a reasonable price. Before I go out and scrutinize it, I was just wondering if all the GLIs were 16v, or if specific ones were.

As far as I know, the answer to that question is NO. Why? Cause my 87' GLI is an 8v and Im very happy with it. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif Tough little bugger can take a beating and it has responded well to everything I have done with it.

16v's Might require a little more maintenance to keep running smoothly but nothing a car nut/inthusiast cant handle.

85 and 86 and some 87's are 8v's. 16v's appeard in the A2 in 1987.

So could you theoretically throw the 16v head on there and be done with it?
Just wanna make sure I know all my options

youd have to cut the pistons to clear the valves..but yeah i think so
