All american A2s had badges to cover the sidemarker holes right?
I just pulled a Wolfsburg Edition badge off of my smashed in fender (that is NOT orginal by the way) and there was no hole underneath of it. Where did it come from?

Only German built MKII's had the extra holes. Mexican and U.S. built cars did not. This is why the older MKII's have the black plastic crest emblems on the fenders. Wolfsburg editions weren't necessarily (actually more than likely weren't) built in Wolfsburg. You probably have a mexican if you check your vin. It will probably be 3VW....

German oem fenders do not have the banana parking light, but have the small marker light holes where youre wolfsburg badge would be. a 89 helios jetta has holes where the wolfsburg badge is. I though all wolfsburgs badges were not stuck on there but simply had holes for it to be pluged into. hmm.. could be wrong tho.

Re: What A2s had fenders with no sidemarker holes? (Big Dac With Fries)

an interesting thing I came across on my factory German G-60 GTI fenders (euro fenders with the factory notches in the metal flare for the G-60 plastic flare) is that they have no holes at all. No antenna hole, no banana light hole and no european side marker hole (where the WB emblem usually goes).

the black plastic WB badges snap on in place of the euro side blinkers, but i think the stick on ones he's talking about are the round enamel -over-metal wolfsburg edition badges.

My 92 GLi (WVW vin) has bannana lights, plastic caps, and holes for sidemarkers. Unfortunately, it was involed in an accident with the PO, and the driver fender has no side hole.
Is this something that is easily drillable if I want sidemarkers, and want to shave my bannana?

Yep, I've got the stick on round ones and underneath this particular fender there are no sidemarker holes, but I do have banana lights. This is weird man.

ALL mk2s have the black plastic crest, new or not. Well all Jettas.

Not so. I have all 3 build location cars (Westmoreland, Puebla and Wolfsburg), and all have the holes (one large, one small) for the European sidemarkers or 'wing repeaters' as the Brits call them.

You also have 3 Jettas. Someone eluded that there is a difference between Golf and Jetta fenders at one or more of the locations.

Not true from what I know . I have a german-built '91 GL with the black "crest" badges , and a mexican-built Carat without any badges or holes .

Agreed. I'm only speaking for Jettas. I was addressing the blanket MkII statement. Perhaps I should have been more clear.
FWIW, I've never seen any Golf with those holes.
