I was planning to the RS-4 style front bumper from pgperformance or Rob from AMI for my jetta but im seeing alot of posts and people telling me that i should stay away from fiber glass. What else are bumper made of and whats the most durable material/bumper. and if you have any bumper besides these ones please post em up.
RS-4 (fiberglass)

Caractere (dono?)

Oettinger (PUR-RRIM? dono what that is) and i heard you need the euro bumper for it

Reiger (dono) sorry for size

Oettinger is fiberglass too -- take a fiberglass bumper to any good body shop and you'll have no problems.

I have Landspeeds 2001 bumper.
It's all Urathan, VERY durable.
The city I live in is second in the US for amount of hills and grades (Second to San-Francisco).
I scrape my bumper at least once every other day on the ground and my bumper is in perfrect condition.
However, a friend of mine has a fiberglass bumper on a Civic and it's cracked all over from hitting the ground.

This bumper should be banned from ever showing up on the vortex again!

why, because you dont like it? is it hard to fit your huge ego in a vw? how many of your posts are wasted trying to tell people how to correctly modify their own cars? go soak your head.

yea well um.....yea..
back to what bumper is more durable.
right now ive decided that fiber glass is stiff but if you do it right it should be alright.
so between the cratere or the rs-4.........which one?
Re: what bumper wins the durability contest? (Koobs)

From what i remember the Rieger is just the lip... looks similar to 4mo' valence..
The oettinger and Caractere are great bumpers and from what ive seen they are extremely durable.
The dub shop here in houston also told me to stay away from fiber glass! no good.

Back to the topic,
I vote for the votex front bumper as being the most durable. or stock bumper with 4-motion valence. Fiberglass is repairable but its just a hassle!

if you like seeing your money dissapear really really fast go for the votex.....if i had the money i would too
Re: what bumper wins the durability contest? (Koobs)

The picture of the white bumper is merely the one from Landspeed usa.
This is the picure of my actual car. I decided not to post it earlyer because it's not a great image. The bumper looks great, with exception for these judgemental/critisizing few, all I've gotten is compliments.

Re: what bumper wins the durability contest? (Koobs)

fiberglass isnt that bad. the reason your friend's civic kit kept breaking is because those kits are very cheap. just have the body shop add a little extra glass to the inside of the bumper to help reinforce it. obviously if you hit a curb going 20 mph no matter what you have its trashed. just drive carefully and you will be all set.

Re: what bumper wins the durability contest? (drivrswntd)

thats what i thought.
the black on in my opinion still looks cack.
a guy who is selling the oettinger full piece for 650 canadian also has the rs-4.
so considering that the oettinger he is selling is 1000 in shops i think I will save a bunddle on the rs-4.
ill keep you guys posted cus i have to call him in like 2 hours to see how much he wants.

POLYURETHANE = DURABILITY
I needed that, and that's why I went with the Oettinger front chin add on!!
I looks great, and man, after I put a approx. 3" slam on it, I gave it a beating but never did it ever lose shape or crack.
Plus it just looks damn good.

So I thought I would mess with the image from LandSpeed a bit... It needed bigger wheels and a better grill IMO. And just for kicks a version of "Snap Orange".

Peeps with fiberglass problems are you in the northern states? I see no reason why fiberglass would not hold up otherwise. Big temp changes such as those encountered in the north when going from a warm garage to freezing temps will cause the fiberglass gel coat to crack and craze.
