What can you tell me about a Golf GT?

What can you ladies and gents tell me about a Golf GT?? Seems to be a rare car, either that or I am lookin in the wrong place......any info on this type would be greatly appreciated ....thanks a bunch

A fellow at my work had a Golf GT. I think it was a 91 alpine white. I dont think theres anything different from a regular golf, or a Jetta GL, But all I think it had were power options, sunroof, maybe rear disc brakes... but i doubt it.
I've seen a few Golf GT's around where I live (west coast BC), maybe its a Canada thing. Ie. Jetta GTX.

its kinda like a golf with GTI options. you could get them in 4dr's and automatics unlike GTIs
rear disc brakes, GTI engine (not 16v) gti sport suspension, sport seats, etc...

Hmm. thats funny, I dont think my co-worker had sport seats when I took a ride in it. Oh well.

But yep, 4 door, automatic option, sport suspension, gti engine. That sounds about right.

speaking of automatics...my volkswagen mechanic picked up a GTI the other day and showed it to me. 91 GTI 8v and its an automatic. as far as either of us can tell it was that way out of the factory. anyone else ever seen an automatic GTI?

yes... 8 valves could be had with an auto... and what a pig they are.

Offered in the US in 87 and 88. Rear DRUMS, solid fronts, GTI engine/tranny, regular seats with sport seat cloth.

how much do these things typically go for... vw_gurl is my girlfriend, and we're looking at one for sale here locally...
it's an 87, body's in good shape, only one rust spot more than minor, seems to run strong, and the interior is in good shape. It has 225,000 kms (139,000 mi) and they're asking $1000 Canadian ($742 US). I think that I could get it for $800 canadian, 593 US.
what do you guys think?

$1000 CDN is a good price for it, I'd say. I paid $2700 for my base model Jetta with 190k kms.

Then again, it is a BC car.

As far as rare, i see quite a few in NY. It looks like a Golf in GTI's clothing
And ive driving a 92 GTI Auto before. Some poeple(with money) probly ordered them like that when they bought them fom the dealer. Wutta shame. Thats like a Auto G60 Rado

Yeah i once heard 91-92 gti 8v's. It was an option for automatic. No one ever took it. Not very common. As for GT's i like them and there pretty rare round my ways. Ive probably only seen 4. One was an 87-89 4 door and it was the nicest green ive ever seen on a mk2 stock.

Where's the rust? that's about the maximum I'd pay for an 8v with minor rust. If it's in a bad place(windshield), I'd say to walk away.

the "bad" spot is located on the rear hatch, about 3/4 up, not terrible bad... sandable and fillable.

oh, hatch is easy. worst case you can swap another hatch on. Body rust is the bad thing. sounds like a decent price then.

Actually, the later 8V GTIs were available with an autotragic. I have seen at least 10 of them in my "career."

I've always been told they were rear discs and that they ran from 87-89. also that they came with power windows either as an option or standard, not sure on that.
I've only seen one and it did have rear discs, it looked worked on though so it very well could have been added aftermarket.
I myself am looking for a gt with a sunroof, just damn hard to find them

a friend of mine has a '87 GT. non-power window/locks, has a sunroof... rear drums.

yeah this one has drums/sunroof, and does not have power windows and locks...
this seems to be a great car for the winter... the Rado will always be driven in the summer.

Ah.
I myself own a 1987 Golf GT. Let me tell you about it.
They were made in 87-88 only. They had a GTI engine/tranny (8v) and had a sunroof. Mine does NOT have power windows. Also, the rear brakes are DRUMS, not discs. The previous owner took out the stock seats (regular golf gl seats but with sport cloth) and put in some recaro imitation seats. Other than that, that sounds like a great deal. Mine has 152,000 miles, and is mechanically sound with a new clutch. No rust anywhere. I paid 500$US for it. Sounds like a good deal, go for it. The GT's are rarer, but there are some around. Mine also has a Zender ground fx kit, so that makes it look cooler and I got 17" rims coming for it.
