As with many other members on this board, Ive been trying to decide between BMC and EVO, I like the design of the BMC but I dont like the fact it uses a "dryer type hose" to get the cold air. My theory has always been the smoother the surface, the smother the air flow. I just dont see air flowing smoothly through that riged surface of the BMC. So I was thinking of combining BMC w/EVO to make the perfect CAI. I was studying pics of the two and it looks like you can attach the lower part of the EVO to the upper part of the BMC. Has anyone else thought of this, or actually done this. Think about it, wouldnt it just plain work better if you had smoother flowing air? For me, the money isnt a problem but I just want your feed back before I decide to do it. I was also thinking of adding one of those plastic air scoops that attach to the fog light section of the grill. What do you think? http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif

Plastic air scoop? Where do you get that from? Got a pic?
I think the gain you would see from switching to a smoother inlet tube would be negligable. Maybe 1-2hp if anything. Besides, there is rubber flex tubing you can get that is much smoother inside and, it would be cheaper than getting an EVO just for the inlet tube.

quote:

don't forget, there is a turbo that gets in the way of that "smooth air flow" you want.
Just keep that in mind and i think you might have your answer.

Also don't forget that the intake plenum is designed to tumble the air to create a more uniform cylinder fill.
So smooth away, it's just going to get more turbulant as it moves to the intake.

Okay, so I'm not the only person who had this crazy idea. Good!

The kit, from The Race Store, as it comes, for the BMC CDA system, asks you to use the stock air route for the intake. This is fine with most people. You can look around - there are cars from APR and other places that make over 300HP at the wheels with nothing but a K&N drop in with the stock airbox. Great!
However, I too prefer the style/layout of the BMC CDA unit (hence why I have one) - but I wanted to route colder air in from below. Well, if you take the hose supplied with the kit, it is long enough to grab air from below the battery, closer to the front opening in the bumper. And since I have Grill Craft grilles, I did just that.
I have not had a chance to take pictures yet, I apologize. However, I can tell you that I also thought about air flow worried. Then I looked closely at the interior of the CDA box, and realized that it will take care of making the air flow more uniformed. Not to mention, as others said, you dont need to worry about it. The MAF has a mesh to straighten it all out, and then after the turbo, it'll change again. It wont change dynamics enough to go with a smoother intake pipe.
My suggestion is just get the BMC CDA system, and enjoy it... http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

They have them for sale in the Tuning Zubehor catalog...the catalog is free and it like 500 pages of aftermarket parts for our rides, go to their site and order the free catalog. The only pic if these air scoops I have is this
I think they are only like $30 or something.

Thanks LoFat. Now I see what you were talking about. I doubt they make them for the NB. Everything on this car is different and, most aftermarket companies don't bother with it.
What I want to get is some sort of shroud, to help jam air up the intake, as well as force it over the I/C. Anyone who has seen the Stillen shrouds for the 300ZX TT SMICs knows what I am talking about. Having your I/C shrouded can really improve its efficiency, especially with heat soak, I imagine.
