Re: What do you think the reason is that a lot of people dont like VW's???/ (I_Fly_GTi)
Excellent question!
I think that most people are brainwashed from the earlier years of the bug, where they know them to be an economy car, not the love affair relationship we know and have with our cars. The Volkswagen advertising in the US has ALWAYS been the best out of any other automobile name, but the classic ones seem to portray the humorous, ruggedness, and reliability of the car simultaneously. Underlying it all was always the economical value of the name VW. The new commercials have surely helped VW builld its' customer base, as the October Sales reports show. (Thanks, VWVortex!) I guess most people just don't see the greatness through the misconception of a practical, value-loaded stereotype.
It would be interesting to know which auto brands have the most customer loyalty. (Not gonna go check right now) I know that the more recent cars are notorious for certain problems, which are all over the 'Tex, but I know that for me, VW's have "something" that other cars (I can afford) don't. I can only try to name what that "something" is: soul, peersonality, a connection between the car and me, etc. Something like that, but not quite the complete definition of "something". It's hard for me to describe, but I am betting that if you are on this board, you know the feeling to some degree.
I think that there are other reasons too, but the majority of those who don't like VW's are ignorant of a few things, like what it means to enjoy spiritied driving, with a different car than the Joneses driving in the lane next to you. One that is built to (mostly) last for over 100K miles, WITHOUT rusting away.
There's two pennies.
