What is an "Environmental Package" and why does it retail for $495?

Just received a faxed bid from an Internet Sales Mgr. in the southeast. My request was for a GLS V6 Variant, no leather. One of the items on the bid was "Environmental Pkg" which retails at $495 (but my cost... only $100
). Anybody seen this before?
I will give the guy (momentary
) benefit of the doubt on the $449 he listed for the single CD player--surely he has misunderstood (unless this Variant is an early production 2002 or 2001.5). Nevertheless, that's still more than Monsoon, so what could that (legitimately) be?

Sounds to me like bogus charges. I would refuse them. BTW, in dash CD should be standard for 2002 models.

Yeah, the in dash CD didn't become standard until a few weeks into the initial production run. But how would you possibly account for charging $449 to add one if it wasn't? Sheesh!
There's also a "Documentary Services Fee" of $299.95. Best I can figure, Documentary Services at that rate must mean they're going to shoot a documentary film of the sale! Hope the Sales Mgr. has a good scriptwriter, 'cause at this rate, it's gonna be all solo monologue.

Maybe the Environmental charge is to pay for all the trees they kill to write up $300 worth of documentation.

The "Environmental Package" is the guy's Christmas bonus!! What a scam.

An *Environmental* Pkg...is most probably Scotchguard, etc. Lots of profit
built in here, but is certainly negotiable...Inside and out is about a three hour
job and if you live near salt water the paint protection component might be
worth considering...probably the same cost as a first class detail, but all
attention is paid to the exterior...Frankly, for a mere $100, I'd pass...to
cheap if they are really doing something.
And any September built Passat has the new AM/FM/CD/CASS...A MUCH
IMPROVED HeadUnit. I say September due to the fact that the change over
occurred Build Week #32; so some August build cars will have the old and some will have the new. Production date clearly printed on the upper right
quadrant of the Invoice.
This kind of info from the *Internet Sales Mgr.* leads me to believe that he/she is one or two steps away from their Retail sales backround...Seek help
elsewhere...

S.O.S.! Cd-175.00 profit, environmental-389.00 profit, doc fee-300.00 profit.
If you like the car, negotiate - or blow them off! It seems alot of "no haggle" internet sales are loaded with extra charges so folks are right back to where they started from. Believe it or not, you can often get much better treatment at your local dealer if you are well informed, have done your homework and are as personable as you would like your salesperson to be to you! (imho)

"envoirmental package" is for some new shrubs and gardening at the Dealer's mansion

I think main purpose of the "Environmental Package" fee is to finance breast implants for the internet sales manager's mistress...
