Nothing, its an automatic. You automatically get a car with little performance and guaranteed high maintenance costs.

yeah to performance drivers it's a minus, to the public it's not. It's an added feature, an option. Extra crap = higher resale value.

depends on who you're selling it to. when i bouight my 92 GL, even though i wanted a GLi, i knew that i needed a standard. however, people who have never driven standards won't know the difference. i guess i'm saying, if you're selling it? 2500-3000, people will buy it. if you're buying it? find another car. if you're selling to someone who wants to buy a VW and knows about them? 1500.

Its book value is probably around $3000. Would most people pay that much? Not a chance.
My sisters '90 Wolfsburg, auto, Jetta was totalled in June. She got $3000 for it.

$3000 sounds really close for the book value. Nobody's going to give that for it though, especially when you can get a car like a Corrado or maybe even a VR6 car for that or a little more. Probably you'll get ( I'm assuming you're selling it...)
about $2000, plus or minus a few hundred bucks....
