I keep hearing about it but I have no clue what it is? Can any one explain it to me?

Re: what is three-angle valve grind? (kickster)

The portion of the valve that contacts the cylinder head...where it contacts the head, the edge of the valve face is cut at 3 different angles, ensuring a better seal between the valve and the head.
Check out the Bentley, Section #3 (engine), page #29, at the top...it has a couple of drawings of a valve face. You can see how at the face, it is cut at 3 different angles..it just provides a more reliable seal for the valve face.
That is about all I know about it really, and that I have a 3 angle job on my valves, from when had the head rebuilt

As well as sealing the valve better, a 3-angle valve cut flows the gases more efficiently.

oh I see. thanks guys

so in theory (at least), a 5-angle valve job ensures even a better seal?

Don't the TDI's have 5 angle? I'm basing this on pieces someone was showing me before...he's a TDI only kinda guy, so I'm guessing that's what he pulled it off. Of course, he might've done that 5 angle himself....but I think it is better...oh wait...talking out my ass I have no idea
