I heard some of you guys talking about different color Koni's? I guess this must determine the stiffness? Also what I wanna ask is if I go with either Neuspeed port springs, or H&R sport, what kind of Koni's should I get if I get them? I am looking for a not so harsh ride. Thanks for the help.

Re: What kind of Koni's (1997 Golf GL)

if i remember correctly, the koni yellow is just the name of them. they allow you to adjust the dampering(stiffness) of the shock. as for springs to go with them, i can't help with. as i'm asking that as well on another thread.
however, a buddy of mine has the koni yellows with nuespeed springs on his corrado. it rides really nice. but that's a corrado. hope that helped. maybe.

I am running Koni adjustables with H&R sport springs (1.4",1.3") and I am very pleased with the handling and ride height.

Are they set all the way soft? How do the bumps in the road feel? Is it a harsh ride? Thanks for the help.

Re: What kind of Koni's (1997 Golf GL)

Koni Reds = Koni Special. These are the milder adjustable sport shocks for the Mk3. Not available for the Mk4, except for special order.
Koni Yellow = Koni Sport. These are the more aggressive sport shocks for the Mk3. These will ride harsher than the Koni Reds.
If you are adding sport lowering springs like the NS or H&R Sports, you should use the Koni Sport set to full soft (default setting out of the box). If you buy the Koni Reds, you should increase the stiffness almost to about halfway to control the stiffer springs.
Since you are concerned about ride quality, you should consider getting the shocks with milder springs like the H&R OE Sports, not the H&R Sport or the Neuspeed stuff. Also, you should think about just getting shocks by themselves.
