I am new to the forum so my apologies if this is a repeat question...
I am trying to find the cheapest and smallest chasis that the Audi 4.2L V8 will bolt into. I am aware that this engine is brand new in the S4 for 2004 from the factory, but are there any earlier year A4 engine bays that it will bolt into? Will it bolt into a Passat? What about a TT?
Has anyone done one of these swaps?
Always trying to maximize my performance per $$ for my next ride. Thanks for your help

Re: What models will the 4.2L V8 fit in??? (RS_Speed_Nut)

well actually there has been a 4.2L V8 in audis line up since 93-94ish when the V8 quattro (that's what it was called, the V8...original huh
) changed from the 3.7L to 4.2L V8, an then the motor reappeared with a increase in power in 97 when the A8 was first released. Anyway, while the new 4.2 in the S4 is considered different than the 4.2 in Audis other cars I'm guessing the dimensions of the motors are similar, an I can't recall hearing of anyone swapping the 4.2 into anything else, though I'm not saying it can't be done by any means. Thing is the 2.7t is stuffed into the B5 engine bay an the same can be said for the 4.2 in the new S4. So I'm guessing it would be pretty damn hard to fit the motor into anything other than a B6 A4 or an A6 or something that size. But I can assure you of this, that motor will never fit in a TT unless its mounted somewhere other than the engine bay. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
But if you could stuff that motor into something smaller it would be a sweet project

it will not fit into a TT, it will not bolt into a passat or earlier A4 as the engines are mounted differently (transversely vs. longitudiley)

B5 motors are all mounted longitudinally just like B6's
but you're right, it still won't fit

Ive seen a 4.2 stuffed into a 91 Coupe Quattro.
Also The new S4 V8 is actaully shorter then the old one. They had to alter it to fit it in the B6 and Allroad chassis, so converted all the componants to chain drive.

stuffing an insanely expensive v8 into a car it will barely fit into is not the way to accomplish the most performance for the dollar.
