I second that http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif I used the 3mm tape and everything is fine. The trick and hardest part is making sure both surfaces are absolutely clean. Good luck!

Re: what to do when the moldings fall off (Gaki)

what sucks is they all come off after some time. we used some doublesided stuff on my friends gti. it was pretty thick and didnt look too good, plus not too long after that the molding flew off. ALL of my mouldings are coming off in at least one spot. oh yeah did i mention how disgusting it looks. I guess ill go hunt down some 3m stuff and give it a try.
buying new mouldings....id have to get them painted as well wouldnt i?
Re: what to do when the moldings fall off (pele)

I've used the 3M moulding adhesive (clear glue) it works!! You need to be careful not to smear it on the paint because it'll make it soft and shrink it..
Re: what to do when the moldings fall off (mexwagen)

i used two part epoxy to glue mine back on... they are holding very nicely now. also, i noticed the paint on the mk3 mouldings usually wears off or turns a darker color...

Anyone in PDX, I've got a can of goof off and a big roll of 3M body moulding tape to share. Mail me if you need, I have enough to do my car 5 times all around.

What to do if moldings fall off??
Buy a 1994 Mk3

'94s have little connectors that actually punch right into the door panel . . . don't be jealous though because I have these damn annoying seat belts connected to the doors!!!! oh well its a trade off . . .

Use the 3m tape they sell at PepBoys. It's black, with red backing. That tape is strong...my moulding's been re-glued for over a year with no problems. I didn't even clean the surfaces very well.
Re: what to do when the moldings fall off (FatSean)

I did this about 2 weeks ago.. my driver's side door moulding was starting to fall off (about 4 inches). I carefully peeled off the moulding, then used some 3M adhesive remover and a razor blade to remove the residue and remaining old adhesive from the moulding and the car (obviously don't use the razor blade on the car).
I felt i did a pretty thorough job and while I didn't get all the old adhesive off, I got about 98% of it. I used some body moulding tape I got from the local parts store about 1/4" wide and put one strip on each end of the moulding. Pressed it on and voila.
Total time was about 2 hours.

I have an early 95 Golf with the clips and they aren't much better. About the time someone slams the door in cold weather all the clips break and the molding falls off. I glued mine on with silicone trim adhesive.
