Ok thinking about going crazy with my credit and getting some mods. I still dont know much about the 1.8t but I have some idea what I am looking at. I would like to go with a good all around street package. All I have now is a K&N drop in filter.
Here is my wish list so far.. any help would be great.
APR chip
DV (not sure which)
DP and HF cat (Not sure which brand)
Suspension ( shocks/springs/swaybars)
Anything else I should add? Motor Mounts maybe? Also I am interested in a turbo upgrade but I am not sure the k04 is worth the extra cash and I cant find much info on the t3/t4? Last but not least, can anyone recommend a shop in the Sac/Bay Area. Was thinking about going to New Dimensions if they could do all the work.
Thanks again.

Re: What to do with $4500 on stock 02? (Sinister)

do a limited slip differential and lightened flywheel/upgraded clutch... that'd be a nice addition to the list you got going. Go 3" DP and high flow cat from ATP (www.vwturbo.com) they've also got an awesome new Stage III kit out with a T3/T4... don't know if it works with '02 ECU, don't think you'd have a problem. suspension wise, i'd do autotech lightweight hollow sway bars and their top strut, dunno if they even have them for '02's, last time i checked (last month) the '01's were still being re-done due to fitment issues. i've got an h&r cup kit on my car and i adore it. really agressive fun ride. got mine at the potterkids http://www.parts4vws.com, also tons of other great stuff there. i've got an APR chip, i'd suggest them or GIAC for most agressive performance. and yes do the motor mounts. i got my dogbone urethane mounts for $14.77 at my local auto parts store, world of a difference on that wheel hop!

Upsolute is right UP there with apr or giac for 2002 actually about the same to the wheels depending on the car of course and dyno. But with 4500 I would definitely go this route (will not include exact prices cause they warry depending if you get stuff on group buys or not etc.)
1. Chip (any of following (up,apr, giac) will do depending on which one is closes to you for possible problem follow up) about
$500
2. Exhaust System (If money isn't an issue go with Forced Motion but in my opinion it is overpriced 1050 and up. u can get something like Eurosport which is almost 1/3 rd of the fm price, and still produces really good gains. let's say about $1000
3. Cold Air Intake (Do a little search for your preferences but bmc or Evo are top performers)
$200 on the group buy
4. Clutch (really necesary to upgrade if you gonna race cause stock one goes about 35k miles)
$600 (or somewhere close
5. Save the rest of the money for possible complications cause U 've just voided most of your warranty and you will need it-trust me.
$2200
LOL

You have a brand new car so if I were you, I would do UpSolute chip, 3" Forced Motion exhaust (dyno proven and only 3" available now), intake (BMC or if you don't care about having the filter down low go with Evolution), K&W Variant 1 coilovers, european bumber strip, tint, and you don't really need a new clutch, but maybe later on when your stock one starts giving up.
If you have 4500$ and you don't care about your warranty go with the T3/T4 Garret turbo kits. If you decide to go this route, make sure you have a new clutch (something better than Sachs kit) and also LSD!
Good Luck!

Easy....
APR (www.goapr.com) - Stage 3 Kit
The kit, in its completed form, will give you over 260HP or more at the wheels... over in other words, around or at least 310HP at the crank! Yikes!
The nice thing about the APR kit will be reliability... and all of that listed above can be made with a stock intake, stock DV, etc... although APR is coming out with a full turbo-back too for the car... but if I had $4k, I'd get an APR Stg 3!

Make sure you have enough to pay for install.
Actually a 2k turbo kit can just about wipe out your budget when you install it.
Here is what I'd do
LSD-800+800 install
Turboback-1000+200 install
Upgraded Motormounts-$35-DIY install
T3 kit 2200-$400-$1k install
Pullies or Cams. 200-800 plus install.
Depending on what you can do yourself you can do all these mods. I could install all but the LSD, I don't touch trannies yet, Cams would be a pretty tough install too.
This will put you around or above 300hp on race gas.

Re: What to do with $4500 on stock 02? (Sinister)

I would play it in this order:
Quaife / Peloquin (LSD's) ($700-800)
Clutch (Clutchmasters) (up to $400ish)
Suspension (coilovers) (up to $1200ish)
Chip (GAIC) ($400-500ish)
Aftermarket DV (anywhere from $100 to $200 bucks)
Turbo back exhaust system (Downpipe, Cat and Cat Back) (Depends on who you get it from and weather it's 2.5 or 3.0 inch or stainless or aluminum could add up to a grand or a little less or so)
Better Rubber of course

That should be around $3100
Then if you have money left:
Somekind of Turbo Kit, you've got a myriad of choices, and if you wait, Greddy is comming out with one as well.

I would not rush to get the biggest and baddest turbo kit right away, I would beef up all the parts that need it first before you go bigger and badder.

Gotta agree on the credit thing - ever wonder why so may people have to part out their cars in the classifieds??
But as far as suggestions go, any list that doesn't included upgraded rubber is pretty much worthless

Re: What to do with $4500 on stock 02? (Raring 2 Go)

NOOOO!!!! voice of reason too strong......must not believe........ bah!
Thank you all for your responces. I see alot of different directions I could go with this so I think I will use a bit of level headed judgement and not spend all my cash at once. I will probably get on a GB for the koni adjustables for now and just get the apr to hold me over until the new turbo kits come out. I will prob get the lsd when I decide on a good turbo kit....that is if I feel I need one after the APR

Crap, I guess I need a dp too........man my will power sucks

LOL, I think you'll be happy with you first impressions of a chip and suspension....I guess the best way to do it is to gradually add mods, that way it stays fun and doesn't get old. You'd be surprized how fast you will grow tired of the new mods and then wanting to spend/add more to keep the edge.
Do a few ghetto mods those are always fun too,
Joei In Pro's Ghetto headlight mod
The fender liner mod (where you put somekind of vent in the fender liner to aid in cooling the intercooler)
Guages (boost etc)
Those are all fun mods and aren't so spendy.

I love Ghetto mods, especially when people don't notice and think you paid to get it done.

18" wheels + 225/40ZR18 tires - $1500
bilstein sport shocks/h&r race springs/front+rear sway bar - $1100
f-m 3" turbo-back system & hi-flo cat/apr chip/dv/evoms cia - $1200
various installations you can't do yourself - $700
just my 2¢...

Re: What to do with $4500 on stock 02? (Dubbin1.8)

LSD, clutch, flywheel. $1,300-$1,500
Chip, 3" turbo back exhaust, DV, CAI. $1,600-$1,800
Forced Performance SMIC, lower I/C pipe, turbo inlet pipe. $800-$900
rear sway bar $250-300???
Frills to get with any remaining funds...springs, brake pads+lines, TT vent, Z-rated tires (if you don't have them), strut tower braces, dogbone inserts, etc...
All of that should give you a "bulletproof" car with about 220-230 flywheel HP. Maybe a bit more. Your car would totally be ready for the turbo upgrade that you know you want. Don't forget, you could always go with a K04 and, pick up a fairly cheap 20-30HP. Your car would be better in all phases except braking, so keep that in mind. If you already have decent rims from the dealer, I would get Z-rated tires with any remaining money and, leave it at that. Otherwise, I would take the remaining money and save it towards wheels+tires or a T3 Super 60, manifold, programming and injectors (gonna be about $1500-$2000 to take that next step). It all depends on your personal taste. Show or go...Personally, I'm ALL go.

GOOD LUCK! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Follow BMW's philosophy and make the suspension the fastest thing on the car. Once you've done that, then consider doing engine mods. Start with a good exhaust, chip, dv, and intake. Then if you want more, based on your needs there will be kit's ranging from 240hp-400+(Adrenaline). One step at a time, but remember power is useless unless you can handle it. My .02cents.

Re: What to do with $4500 on stock 02? (Tybolltt)

Thanks again for all the replies.
You all have turned me in the right direction and I will not mod it all at once. If I can find a local shop to install the kit I will just get the koni adjustables/H&R springs and front/rear sway bar for now. Once I get comfortable with that I will get the chip/dp/dv/boost gauge. I will just pay off my last mod befor I hit the next one.
Thanks again for looking after my future finances
