Anyone here familiar with any mods for a 3a 4cyl engine?
I've been dying to get s'more power outta my little machine, but have been running short of ideas.
any head / cam / intake / other mods that can be done
CIS can be a headache sometimes I know but can anyone give any ideas for my project? Any mfgr's or sites that provide for my powerplant?
thanks

Re: What to do with a 4 banger 3a (duandcc)

Yea. I'm aware that the powerplant is similar to other 8v dubs except that it's longitudinal (sp?) I dont expect to turbo it because the engine bay is tight on the intake and exhaust (same) side (damn counterflows
). and by looking at http://www.audi80pages.com may be slightly hazardous if improperly installed.
it's an au-poo-matic tranny I'd like to change it but it's alot of work for an auto-to-manual conversion. my bro-in-law and I had worked on the differential and had it replaced, as well as the ring-gear (flywheel) but is there any solution for a better torque converter or having a stall converter put in? does such an aftermarket beast exist?
a few buds of mine that come to the `tex have given me ideas, one has turboed AND g60'd his (it *IS* possible I coudnt believe it either)

Could I slap a gladder on mine? maybe overkill eh
it may still be a little tight
I just want a little push, i.e. bring my powerband a tad lower...
I dont want to port and polish yet coz it's my daily... and where I'm from, a 3a head is a needle in the proverbial haystack, and touching the bottom end is out of my pricerange ergo out of the question as well...
I may be able to get a cam off one of my dub friends, which would be nice.
and I know that my engine is the hot swap for alot of dubs too, is there anything like a bigger throttle body? I heard out there that there's a intake for CIS. funny looking thing with the cone under the metal cone flap and fuel distributor.
I'm just playing around with ideas right now.
BTW what is the bolt offset 4x110? and what's the max size wheel can I fit in the audi 80 wheelwell?
thanx

Re: What to do with a 4 banger 3a (duandcc)

handling and suspension was probally going to be one of my next concern as the driver front corner is SUPER stiff... maybe a nice coilover kit or just some new sport package. anyone know if I could do AIRRIDE?

Yea. I just found out that the Bolt Pattern is 4x108, right after I made that post... I have done my exhaust myself and had been considering doing ALL my filters with better flow/filtration qualities.
I definatley want to get rims and tires, but what's the maximum wheel size for the wells? but I'm not going to give up on trying for engine mods, so any ideas for throttle bodies, torque converters, any different types/strength differentials?
I understand that this automobile / engine is not quite made for any sort of mods or tuning, everyone I ask basically says I either run into a brick wall
(damn cis-e) or just burn the car (damn au-poo-matic trannies)

But I just LOVE the bodystyle but I cant afford the coupe or anything with a larger engine. The frame and engine are great! (thank god for the 10 yr galv. panels) and I plan on leaving the interior for a long while
I'm sort of partial to a clean 4 cyl engine bay like some of the a1 a2 style vw's. when it's all tucked and cleaned in the engine bay it looks SOO nice. but with the 80 it's SOOOO hard...
Although I like to hang with my dub boyz, I have friends that drive Japanese imports and have done a nice job on them. And when they see my steel braided fuel lines, they're all into em - an' so am I
the engine itself is fairly clean too. just the frame rails had a little crud on em. nothing that a lil simplegreen cant handle

BTW anyone know of any CANADIAN sites/shops that could assist me?
thanx
