All 5000s had K26s, but the early cars (80-85.5) had a smaller turbine exducer. The switch to watercooled was made in 1984 on the KH. The most "choice" turbo on the 5000 is the 86-88 on the MC - large exducer, water cooled.
The K24 was introduced for the 89.5 200 quattro as part of the "MC2" motor code revision.
