Cracked after run pump, or cracked thermostat housing. Only a hairline crack though thats why it leaks only under pressure

A crack after the water pump? It seems to be coming from near the tranny, and also at another spot too...but not as big of a leak.. and it only leaks after it cools and then stops

Re: What would be causing this... (KidCorrado)

Anyone...? Which one would be near/above the tranny?
Re: What would be causing this... (KidCorrado)

Thermostat housing, I had this same problem 2 years ago. I replaced the thermo housing and it was fine. Thats probably what it is.
Re: What would be causing this... (Corrado4Life)

It could aso be the auxiliary water pump. I had to replace that 6 months ago.

Re: What would be causing this... (Corrado4Life)

Would there be any good ways of checking this...or just going in and looking?
Re: What would be causing this... (KidCorrado)

There will be caked up white stuff on and around the leaking part

thermostat housing is easy to change but you have to drop your power steering first.not sure on price but nothing to it,and anytime is a good time to change it as long as you have a heated garage.
Re: What would be causing this... (devistationG60)

wow thanx for the reply even tho this thread was way down there..have you chaged your Thermostat housing before? also im gonna just replace the water pump and get another low temp thermostat....sound like a plan?
Re: What would be causing this... (KidCorrado)

i have changed thermostat before and usually in the summer i just take it out,but havent changed the housing yet.as long as you have the right tools its simple.and about the water pump..compare it to the jetta and golf one cause the block is pretty much the same and i think the pump is too.the only difference i see is the bolts to bolt it on is long on the corrado to hold the G60..but thats reusable and if the pumps are the same you just saved yourself some bucks.

Save myself some money on what? Doing it myself or buying a pump made for a gti VR6 because its cheaper?...Im going to attempt this with WhiteG60 someday or another...he has the tools and garage and i have the bently...armed and ready to go

Re: What would be causing this... (KidCorrado)

Make sure you replace all of the rubber gaskets. Including the one going to the plastic coolant tube that connects to the drain plug. The gasket is #6 on page 19.9. If you don't, you may be pulling it back apart to replace it.

Re: What would be causing this... (Corrado4Life)

thats right i totaly forgot you had a vr6 .i was thinking of the g60,but anyhow find out if the golf or jetta vr6 has the same water pump and ask around for prices.it sounds like there would be no difference but youd be amazed on how many parts are alike and the make of the car determines the price
