What year Corrado used strut inserts?

I am making custom coilovers and got a set of strut housings off a guy who said this his were inserts... well he had the same problem as I did, the top comes off but it just allows you to unseal the struts, the inside is all oily and the strut housing has a side indentation preventing the insert form going in, could someone please help me.
