Re: whats better 1.8 16v or 2.0 16v (joeZX6)

quote:

i heard one is better for low end torque and the other is better for more top end h.p. ....is this true? and if so what engine would be better for top end h.p.?

Stock to stock, the 1.8 is better for top end hp and the 2.0 is better for low end torque. So the best combination is the 2.0 block with the 1.8 head.

a blown 5.0 can put out a LOT of power...

Oh man.. I didn't wanna turn it into a mustang vs. vw thing. That'd be off topic. http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif

Re: whats better 1.8 16v or 2.0 16v (joeZX6)

The 1.8 16V (euro) has bigger intake ports and smaller exhaust ports than the 2.0 16V US head, therefore the 1.8 16V head makes more power.
The best combination is 2.0 block with head from 1.8 16v.
(If you have 2.0 16V engine, you can get more power with Euro 1.8 16V head)

Re: whats better 1.8 16v or 2.0 16v (2035cc16v)

the ports are larger on the 1.8l head
the 2.0l ports are smaller to increase intake velocity and increase torque and with the increase in displacment the 2.0l made better usable power for street driving
so yes the best combination is 2.0l short block and 1.8l head with the large 50mm intake runners

Uh...no. The 2.0 makes more torque than the 1.8 not because of bore, but because it has a larger stroke than the 1.8L. A large stroke is what gives you low end torque. the advantages of the shorter stroke 1.8 16v is that it revs much faster and can rev a bit higher more easily. If you want a torquey motor, go with a 2.0 but if you want both torque and high end, then get a 2.0 and bolt on a ported and polished 1.8 head.

im not worried about torque im going to be using a roots supercharger, so torque wont be a problem......in fact i wouldnt mind sacrificing torque for a higher revving motor .......ill have tons of wheels spin anyway so ill likely be using the 1.8 16v motor

One of my favorites is the 1847cc (82.5 x 86.4) - great power-band and revs like crazy!

it'd be good, but not as good as an ABA 16v with about 11:1 C/R, you'd have compression, displacement, and rod ratio, the 1.9 would only have the rod ratio over a regualr 9A.
