I see in the forum listings, Golfs and Jettas are listed like 4 times, what is the difference between them all?

you must not know your VW's
MKI(Rabbit/jetta75-84)
MKII(golf/jetta85-92)
MKIII(golf/jetta94-98)
MKIV(golf/jetta/new bug99-present)
it's the front wheel drive/ transverse engine evolution

Just as a side note. If you talk to Europeans, they may have slightly different years for the introduction of the new models. For example, it took VW until the 94 model year until they seriously introduced the A3 Jettas in the US. by that time the A3 were already around for 2.5 years in Germany.
P.S.: I know about the few Jettas/ Golfs that had the '93 MY designation and were sold here and the troubles at the Mexico plant, so don't flame me with that...

Mk means mark, in this context it means as much as generation. You can also see the designation A1, A2, A3, A4 for Golf and Jetta which refers to the chassis style; for the Passat, e.g. it is B5 or B5.5 for the current models...
Re: What's the diff. between Golf I's, II's and III's? (VW Jetta GLS)

So it's pretty much a shortcut to saying "a 1975 Jetta", you just say the equivelent "MK"?

...and we usually use 'Mk' instead of 'A' so there isn't any confusion with the Audis that use the 'A' names....

Then to further confuse you there is the Scirocco. They built two models, both on the MK1 chassis. Don't confuse a SciroccoII with MKII. Its just the 82'-88' (in the US) or 82'-89'(in Canada) or 82'-92') in Europe models just built on the MKI chassis.

As you go up in Mk. designation, there is generally an increase in weight, power, safety features, and comfort items.
I've owned a Mk. I Rabbit, Mk. II GTI, and I currently own a Mk. IV GTI.
I didn't own a Mk. III, as I bought a 1997 Passat wagon instead.
