I was doing a little explpratory research this weekend and I noticed that there are provisions in the circut board for another LCD screen. There is a spot for an LED backlite, terminals for an LCD screen and a cut out in the Gauge holder. What do you suppose VW/VDO intended?

3. dummy light for gas tank
4. a space to play little crappy video games at stop lights like that snake game and memory or pong or all those crappy TI-85 games we played in high school.

Looks like its designed for and 8-bit display of some sort. I would think its for the optional mini game council, like the one I have on my TI-86.

I dont think its for the auto tranny cause I had auto and I pulled the guage apart many times and I saw that space as well. Trace back the leads and see were they go to? http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

seems like we have 2 guys with auto trans. who saw that think in their gauge. I don't have it in my '91 Euro G60 Manual Transmission

I got a 91 G60 auto and theres nothing different about the gauges. There wasnt ever anything in that area from VW. But it does look like they had plans for something

Its for an Auto trans I am almost positive. It may not have been used in the Corrado any years...but it is used in the Auto Passats for gear selection (which had almost the same cluster)

I thought the Automatic gear select was above the odometer? Someone will have to confirm this witha picture. The only thing I could think of would be shift light or other warning lights.

YES it is for a automatic to show what gear u were in P R N D 3 2 1
but a led was never made for the corrado
has the same insides for a older passat so figured they used the same casing

I have a Euro cluster from a 93 SLC. That cluster has a third LCD and a cutout
for it in the tach face. I pretty sure it came from an automatic to display the gear selection.
