I just bought a Galactic Blue 1.8T Jetta, when should I wax it for the first time? It has a clearcoat finish, so it should be good for two years right? I sell VWs and run the car through our car wash every Mon-Thur-Sat... no one has ever asked me when to wax... and I can't find any info in my offical VW lit....any ideas?

Re: When should I wax new 2002 1.8T for the first time? (kardinal)

I would wash it with Dawn detergent first just to get rid of any junk wax the dealer might have put on it. Then wash with a good quality shampoo, clean it with Pinnacle Paint Cleansing Lotion, apply some Klasse AIO, a couple of coats of Klasse SG and then top it off with some Blitz.
Your car will have MAD SHINE!!!!!

I half agree with Jman. Get your products at http://www.properautocare.com, but don't clay it right away. Clay is abrasive and you won't have any serious contaminants with a new car.
Instead, you should wash it by hand with either P21S or Eimann Fabrik shampoo. Follow up with some 3m Imperial Hand Glaze. If your car is under 3-4 months old you should apply the 3M IHG frequently to "cure" the paint with the polish. I'd say apply it 4 times in a 2 month period. Once you are past that "curing" period just use the IHG a few times a year, whenever your shine fades and hazes.
Always follow the polish with a good coat of wax, I suggest Blitz 1-Grand.
I have used this method on my car since day 1 and look at the results.

Do NOT use Dawn every time you wash. Yes it strips old wax, but is also strips out important oils from your paint! If you are using a good shampoo those oils will be restored each time you wash (and that is what you want). Any polish, like 3M IHG, removes the old wax and other contaminants while giving a killer shine. So Dawn is not needed at all and can be bad over time.

I'm glad you clarified that....I didn't mean for him to use Dawn everytime.

I used Meguiars #9 swirl remover and blitz wax about a month or two after getting mine. Its amazing how badly the dealer swirled my baby. After a few more treatments she should be clean and crisp.
