As far as restitching that would depend on whether or not the leather is ripped and for a replacement installation I will hazzard a guess that it depends on how the unit is mounted to the seat frame and whether or not there is a plug connection for it inside the seat or further down somewhere that would require pulling the seat cover off. If seats are still made the same as they were on a few of my old classics then removing the hog rings at the seat bottom will facilitate part of the removal and removing mounting brackets and hardware at the bottom of the back rest and removing any seat adjustment wheels on the side should allow you to pull the seat back cover up like a tight sweater but keep in mind that I am not an expert on this.
