Where can I find a stock looking in-dash cd player?

821 Views 12 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  collier
My girlfriend has a new Bettle and she wants an in-dash cd player headunit for Christmas. She doesn't want a regular rectangle aftermarket unit with a dash kit. She said she saw one that looks like the stock Beetle unit, but was a cd player in one of the Beetle magazines she got in the mail. I haven't been able to find this anywhere. I'm not shure if it is a stock unit or aftermarket, but it is round like the stock Bettle headunit. Can anyone help me find this?

Somebody was selling them at one time.
I think it was an australian company that made them.
I can't for the life of me remember anything else.
But she was right, it looks just like the american oem unit.

Blaupunkt (sp?) makes one that looks the same with the same red and blue lights...

Blaupunkt Alaska II has matching lighting.
Here is a link to an install for what it is worth. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-W1R5JXtyLyG/roadtest/rome.asp

I looked at the Alaska II and it is a rectangle unit that would require a dash kit. She doesn't want this. I have to find one that has round ends just like the stock unit, but is a cd player. HELP ME!!!

Australia is the only country that sells beetle with their OEM in dash cd made by eurovox.
It would cost about $318 USD, took me 636.58 Australia dollar including shipping.
I have a small picture but don't have it online to post.
I can mail it if you want to see it.
Send mail to Craig Mills ([email protected]) if you want more information.
This one's round just like OEM cassette unit and lighting's same.
Good luck,

JVC SH-99 You can't beat this unit! Tons of features and the lighting looks great in the new VW's.Crutchfield has this for about $400, but there are other places online that has it cheaper.

I think I'll drop that guy an email. That doesn't seem too expensive. Does it plug right up to the harness for the tape player in a U.S. Beetle?

From what I remember, the manufacturer actually made a few postings here about it. They manufacture the head unit for the NB. You'd just have to let them know to change the frequencies to US ones to be able to use it. It would just plug right in. I tried to search for the old thread, but couldn't find it.

Well...I emailed Craig Mills from Eurovox and he said the headunits are currently out of stock. They won't be back in until sometime in January. I guess I can scrap this idea since I need it by Christmas. Oh well, thanks for everyone's help.

I would be interested in one of these units as well........how well will it integrate into the Monsoon system that my wife has in her Beetle?
