I need to change my coolant temp sensor... but I cant find a brown one. A bunch of places have blue ones, but I'm pretty sure that my car (86 golf cis) uses a brown one... the one thats on there now is red (go figure). I called the VW dealer, and they wanted $94.00(!!!) for one... holy cow... I can get a blue one for like $10.00, whats the deal here? thanks...

Re: where can I get a coolant temp sensor for CIS?? (Metal Man)

hummm... its the two prong sensor that hooks on to the bottom of the coolant flange coming out of the head that I need. It is connected to the oxs sensor system... the bentley manuel calls it a thermoswitch. the dealer said that I needed a brown one.. but maybe they were bs'ing, who knows?
thanks though...

I need the same thing-a brown 2 prong switch that fits on the bottom of the flange. A previous post said the thermo time switch is on the TOP. Now I here the botto. Which is it-top or bottom? Anyone care to enlighten us. $94 yikes! Any place else?

Re: where can I get a coolant temp sensor for CIS?? (Metal Man)

the dealer looked @ EKTA schematic 216-00 for my 87 CIS, 8V, CA emissions and the thermo time switch (#9 in the fig., btm of flange-and yes it is brown) had no P/N listed! We then looked at an 86 diagram and he says the bottom switch is "Thermal Switch for lambda probe for vehicles with regulated catalyst. 2 P/Ns are listed: 035-919-369D 25/17 or P/N 027-919-369B 45/17. Could this be an alternate number.
please see my earlier recent post regarding same issue. Still confused
