Is there a Cabrio section of Vortex? I am not sure, but I would bet that they would know.

You know I would be surprised if it wasn't...check the trunk on the left side where the bottom meets the side about a foot in from the back...hope that this helps

I don't know about the in dash but there should be wiring for the CD Changer on the cabrio. Since it's based on a MKIII golf my guess is that when you open the trunk and look on the left there should be a panel that swings open, and there should be a mounting for the cd changer in there.
As for an in dash you guess is as good as mine.

I opened the panel on the left and while there is room to put a CD Player, the panel is held in place by 4 screws. Also, strangely there is a big heavy thing bolted in that I have no idea what it is.
I'll call my friends at the dealership.

Cabrios aren't equipped for an in-dash CD player. Her only options are to replace the tape radio with a CD radio or install the VW CD changer in the trunk. By the way, the CD button on the radio is used to access the CD changer.

You are correct. Her radio has the button for CD, but there is no wiring in the trunk, that I can find.
If not in the trunk, then what does the plug look like on the back of the radio?
My 99 Passat, which has the same radio, had the wiring in the trunk.
