I have just been asked if the original head on a ABF can be replaced with an VW 1.8 16v head we have had lying about in the workshop.
We are not sure which engine variant the good head we have can off, so are unsure wether it will be good.
The damaged head from the ABF has a oil jet in the cam gallery, but the head we have lying about doesn't ??

The 1.8 16V head will fit, but you may need to remove one of the head gasket dowels. The oil jet is a late mod that the early heads didn't have, but isn't really needed.
