A4 GLI Jetta- 24 valve 200hp vr6
A3 vr6 GTI - 12 valve 172hp vr6
I don't know what the weight difference is between an a4 Jetta and an a3 GTI. Its only like 100 lbs or so between an mkiii GLX and vr6 GTI though. I would say the OEM GLI would win, even over a lightly modded vr6 a3 GTI. But I could be wrong.
Re: which do you think would be faster at the track? (Letsgopens13)

most def the mk3 gti. The GLI's have 200 hp but the gearing sucks and they weigh to much. i give the nod to the mk3

GLI's are SLOW!!!!!!! vw even said them selves that the 180hp 1.8t's will beat the 24v's any dayof the week. and the 1.8t's are slow as poop so there is your answer.

What the hell are you talking about? A 1.8T is slow? A 1.8T will beat a GLI anyday? Maaan, if you don't know what you're saying be quiet.

And to the guy who started this thread, try SEARCH first.

whoaaaaaa chill.
Re: which do you think would be faster at the track? (Spec3VR6)

i woudl say the a3. . .but i am not educated enough to know, all i knwo is that the a3 gti with just an intake and de-weighted wipes me at the track.
Re: which do you think would be faster at the track? (frprado)

What do the GLI's run?
I've only been to the track a couple times but did 14.9 w/ chip and suspension in my MK3.
Re: which do you think would be faster at the track? (GTIginsterVR6)

the GLI is slow??? I'm sorry is that wha tyou said?? Well I tell you what, How bout you bring whatever lil 12v you have bolt ons or not i don't care and I welcome you to race my 24v and we'll see who wins, guarantee it won't be me....not to diss the 12v because its a good motor but i eat those for lunch all day long, actully chipped turbos tend to prove better compettition. Not to be a jerk or anything, i'm just being real though.

I can't help but think road course when you say "track" but I finally realized you're
probably talking boring old drag strip. I'd say it's a driver's race, although there's a fair
chance the Mk3 GTI-VR6 is modified and broken in, and the driver very experienced
so I'd give em the edge.
On a road course, the Mk3 GTI-VR6 has a decent suspension, sticky rubber, and
some negative front camber, while the '03 Jetta would be on stock rubber, stock
suspension and non-adjustable camber, so again, the nod goes to the Mk3 GTI-VR6.

well perhaps a jetta will be alil slower if the driver sucked, but I know for sure I'll take a mk3 in my 24v GTI

I have a little personal knowledge and 12v mk3 will win. Been there done that, see my sig.
The GLI is a sweet ride but very heavy and not very fast.

Actually I said i'll take a 12v with Bolts on or not. Bolt ons meaning cams, chip, exhaiust, intake, flywheels and such. However i don't Think I can deal with a supercharged or 3.1L VR6. However once i get more mods i think I will be able to take 90-95% of the all motors 12v out there.
Re: which do you think would be faster at the track? (omeezy)

omeezy. . . .as i've said before, i still think the a3 is faster. . i test drove a 2002 gti vr6 and took it hoem and had my friend drive it, who is a better driver than i am, and i pulled on him up to about 70 before we slowed down, not by much, but i did. that was with an aem intake and giac. i think the 24v seems a little detuned for some reason. . . but thats just my expereince, could haev been the engine or any other variable.
Re: which do you think would be faster at the track? (vweuroracer)

that engine has a lonnnnnnng way to go before its maxed out, 24vs have a ton of head room
