Re: Which front and p-side motor mounts do you use/prefer? (Dean F)

Early A2 mount for me. When the 16v goes in teh Jetta (no comments about the body shop please
) we'll probably just make a solid mount out of the early mount by using two big washers and welding them on. The subframe bushings are quite soft and will bear the burden instead of the motor mount.

Oreganoflow,
which poly insert? I know the mount you are speaking of, but where do I get the insert from?
BTW for a front mount take the old style rubber one and fill the gaps with poly urathane glue. The glue costs $3 and it makes the mount so much stiffer.

I second that!
Car: '89 Jetta GLI
I've about decided to install a yellow poly insert into an early style (85-86 GX engine) front mount.
As for the best bang-for-the-buck rear mount-still undecided. I may just buy an OE replacement and run inserts in the mount gaps to stiffen it up some.
Look at pricing on the Passat 16V rear pass. side mount
(can be eliminated if you're looking for a reasonably priced rear mount).

Just a bit of advice, I tried what you described. It got rid of the flex so well that it sheared my front sub-frame in half. I think the front mount needs at least a little give.

What I described was info from the guy that will be doing my motor. He syas he's had good results doing that. I think I'll have to bring that up with him. Sheared subframe, no thank you.
Thanks for the warning.
