1. I just hit 13,000 miles and noticed that my idle is a bit rough. i talked to someone and the recommended that changing the plugs should help smooth it out. Which plugs work best with our cars.
2. I heard that changing the thermostat can have some benifits, if so, which one.
Thanks for the input!!!!

Re: Which spark plugs work well with the 1.8t? (SleeperGolf)

I've been using the Denso's for $1.29 from AutoZone which are working fine.
Seems the concensus on these forums is that the expensive plugs don't make a difference and are a waste of money.
BTW, don't messs w/ the thermostat.

Re: Which spark plugs work well with the 1.8t? (SilverFlash)

I was having my 45,000 maintenence[can't spell] and was shown the work order for what they usually do. One of the items was spark plug replacement; $59.00!! I said hell no, and went to the parts dept to see what they cost (I'll do it my damn self), parts dept wanted $100.00!!!, "What!!... theses things got diamonds in'em or what?!" "Platinum" he says... If cheap plugs do the same thing for regular plug price, then those VW plugs can sit on a shelf and catch dust...

Re: Which spark plugs work well with the 1.8t? (BMGBeetle)

I use the bosch super F7LTCR plugs, and they work alot better than the stock platinum plugs. My car was running rough at idle with only 600 miles on it, so I checked the plugs, they were caked with black carbon that was so thick there was chunks falling off of them, so thats when I bought the bosch supers, and 14,000 miles later, the plugs look newer than the stock ones at only 600 miles... Hope this helps....

Bosch Supers 1 heat range cooler.
Downside of low temp thermostats is if there is any moisture in the oil, you're cooling it before it can be evap'd outta there. A thougt...

Re: Which spark plugs work well with the 1.8t? (deadjetta)

Hey Brad, as you've already seen, the ignition coil pack ("direct firing thing") sits atop each of the four spark plugs. On the AWD engines these coil packs are retained by the two bolts clearly visible. Once the bolts for each coil pack are removed, detach the harness connector from the coil pack and pull the coil pack straight up with possibly a slight twist to break their seal w/the plug's insulator. It is all rather straight forward once you've either seen the photo in the Bentley or watched it done.
One word of advise...DO NOT over torque either the plugs 22 ft-lb or the bolts retaining the coil packs 7 ft-lb.
Bosch Super F7LTCR seem to work well
