Is it normal to have a whirring noise when you accelerate? I'm no car expert, so I don't know where the sound comes from, but it distinctly happens only when pressing the accelerator. Also, it seems loudest in 2nd gear (automatic Jetta 01 VR6), but isn't noticeable at high speeds.
Is this something I should worry about?
It has had this noise since I bought it, but it seems lately to have gotten louder or just more noticeable. I usually have the stereo on, so don't notice it, but when the stereo is off it is very noticeable.
Thanks for any insight!

Re: whirring on acceleration (a747ba)

Not that I know of... I have only had it serviced twice (5k & 10k), and both were at VW dealerships, so I doubt that they installed something that wasn't "VW approved".
When you say filter which filter are you asking about? Air filter, oil filter...?
