Just the other day my Air Bag light began staying on longer than normal.
Manual states for me to take in to Stealer for service, is this a normal function of time as it relates to the age of an original air bag?
can I trust my air bag isn't going to go off spontaneously?

Re: Who has an Air Bag light that stays on after start up besides me? (davedave)

I do...I think it tripped when I dosconnected the battery when the orig. died on me way back when. I tripped off one other time before and I had the car in for a recall and the dealer reset it for me. I never got it fixed again after it came back on though.

Hmmm... My Jetta was built in March, 1994 (VIN 068124) and has 92,000 miles on it and I don't have anything yet. Do you know anyone with a VAGCOM to see if it's throwing a code or to see if you can reset it?

I had this problem before. What was causing it was a sticky igntion switch that was keeping power to the starter continuously even after teh car had been started. I sprayed graphite lube and it solved the problem.

Really??? I'll have to try that, cause my light is on. Been that way ever since my battery died.

If the light is on all of the time it needs to be hooked up to the computer and checked out by a vw dealer. If you were in an accident the airbag would not function properly. If it just blinks every once in a while then it could be the ignition switch.
Good luck.

yeah mine came on right after i put that new steering wheel on, got rid of that huge stock thing, felt like i was driving a truck. i just jumpered out the lite with some wire and tape. all the lite looks for is a ground signal.
