I can get a certifit-esque one for $20 or something like that. Poor qaulity grille w/o a bend in it (it is as flat as a 6 y/o girl), with brittle clips, and weird swirls in the plastic. I wonder who sells OEM ones in the states? Potterman (www.parts4vws.com) has real OEM ones for $80USD. I am just wondering who else has them, esp people in colorado like Volksessories, or Rocky Mountain Motorworks.

I REALLY doubt that they are NLA. This is the stock grill in europe! They will be around for some time to come. I guess that i will just order the one from potterman.

my friend got his stock Single round at a shop in Portland for like 20$ with new clips and the lower clipping bar thing

Wow another Colorado A2 Owner that's annoyed with his FLAT grille.
I just got it and it kind pokes out on the driver side looks like a clip is out but I took it off core support and all. NOPE

just a cheap flat grille on a curved GTI front,

I got my OEM single round grille from England (awesome gti) and I paid about $100 after shipping. Well worth it in my opinion. I don't know of anyone other than Potterman selling them here. You could always check some sources in Mexico, since they sold Golf CL's down there with single rounds.

I would buy one as well....I am sick of having to buy at least 2 certifit ones each year because the tabs keep breaking. I get it to attach the right way using small zip ties at the ends of the grill where it is supposed to clip into the lights. I removed the clips in the lights and used a zip tie through the grill holes and through the lights....I cut the clips off the middle of the certifit grill also and drilled holes for screws like the stock grill is supposed to be...
Still it is not contoured right.....

Virtual World Parts sells what I believe are OEM single round grilles. They are a bit pricey, but I have one on my car, and it fits right and materials feel right. If some tech hadn't busted a clip while fixing my A/C, I'd be a very happy camper right now. The only problem is for OEM quality you're going to pay an OEM price; about $110 with shipping.

How the hell do you break the clips on the OEM grille, they are made so well and of good plastic?! That mechanic must be really stupid. That is the thing that i love about these grills, the clips are great and it basically puts itself on.

Anywhoo, for those of you that are also tired of the sortafit grille, POTTERMAN is the way to go, that dude is soo cool, i talked to him on the phone for like 20 mins and he is very knowledgeable, walks in the back and checks it out and he even hooked me up on the shipping. I already had one on my car i just wanted an extra so i ordered it, $88 incuding shipping. I got it yesterday!! Dope...i am going to hang it on my wall until it needs to be used and until then it will just go into my inventory (if you need to borrow it dave...i know you are good for it if you break it). I am more than willing to pay OEM prices for a grille that is of exceptional quality like the OEM ones are, even just to hang on my wall

. I can get chinese ones for $18, but F*** those, they are not even worth $5. I would rather pay 10x as much for a good one.
let's see if we can put potterman on backorder for these!

not sure if its OEM..... but its got the VW symbol hole, all the bars, uses OEM clips, and is HARD black textured plastic. I dont know of anyone who makes non OEM ones with the badge and that use the factory clips. Hasnt broken yet!

Just because it has the hole for the VW symbol does not mean anything, you have to actaully look to see the part number (which is 191 853 653 c). There are many companies that make aftermarket grilles that still have the badge hole and use the OEM clips that are very poor quality as well as some that are mediocre in quality (usually from italy). Comanies that make non OEM ones with the badge and the clips include certifit, that italian brand as well as some taiwnese/chinese and latain american companies.

It only appears to be similiar plastic...plastics varry in brittleness, longevity, resistance to sun fade etc. It is the same fit, but if the plastic is not very flex/brittle, then it will snap the clips when you try to put it on. Also, just because they appear to look the same does not mean that they are...side to side comparison would reveal that the OEM one is curved to the contours of the front end of a mk2 almost perfectly and the aftermarket one is flatter than a day ole' soda. This means more stress on the clips and a grill that pops out once the clips are broke. I have notieced diff textures in the plastic too.
