Why do people say the GIAC is not smooth?

I was kind of sketch about getting the GIAC because people have posted that it is not smooth.
I got a 1.1bar installed today and I was very impressed on how smoothly the power is delivered.
Just wanted to mention that I am very happy with the purchase and relieve the worries some may have about the smoothness of the GIAC.

haha...too me it does not matter if a chip is smooth or not...i am just after power. however i do have the GIAC 1.1 V.04, and i am very happy with it......i would rather take a "rough" chip, where i can FEEL the power.....hehe

I love my GIAC chip, it's as smooth as I want it to be if I say off the throttle, and I absolutely loves the surge of boost

I want to get mine upgraded though

v4 really smoothed out the power, and delivers more torque for me.

I was thinking the newer software was probably smoother. Also I bet most (not all) of the people who say the GIAC is not smooth probably have not driven one.

V.03 felt more aggressive...it felt sportier than V.04.
Then again, with V.04, i feel more power overall.
If i wanted a smooth ride, i would've bought a Buick...hehehe.

V.06 is out for the AWW getting it done right now. I let you know if it is smoother then my V.04, it is supposed to be smoother and more mid-rpm boost.

I felt when I first got it that my GIAC v04 was not smooth. But I have since adapted to the more sensitive throttle, and I can drive smoothly now. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I noticed an improvement in smoothness between the v3 and v4 for the AWD engine. That smoothness only improved when I got the 3" turbo-back. The TB also seemed to cure the detonation problems I was experiencing.

Yes, great thread.
I found the car to be pretty jumpy stock, so maybe that is why the car feels smooth to me.
So maybe the GIAC is not considered smooth when compared to the APR?

Well my GIAC K04 chip is great....Yes it is kinda Lumpy sometimes if I am getting on the boost and let off of the gas....but I like it. nothing but pure torque. Oh well. All the chip makers have a good chip these days. You cant go wrong with any of the BIG boys....But I am a true beliver in the GIAC chip!!!!

I have never driven the V3 but I love my current chip! It did take me a few weeks to get used to the throttle sensitivity but after that it is a smooth chip.

I noticed when my upsolute was installed that the DBW throttle was harder to to control in the low rev band.
It just takes a few days for everything to adust.

IS there a V 5 for AWD? When I got re-chipped in my new ECU, they told me a got the newest version(I already had v4 in my old ecu) and it seems smoother and faster than before.

Same here. My boost doesn't peak as high with V4 but it seems smoother and just as strong.

From the boost I logged GIAC was VERY smooth(throttle at the floor) I think people are reffering to how touchy the throttle is. GIAC had about the smoothest torque curve of the three chips
From the AWDs I've driven I would say
APR= very smooth throttle response and a big torque spike= great for daily drive, can be hard to control at launch
GIAC= sharp throttle response and no torque spike= good for daily once you get a feel for the throttle pedal and great for good 60'
Upsolute= smooth throttle response an slight torque spike= good daily and good launching
I'm sure whatever chip you decide on you will be very happy. Kind of like this: Brittney Spears, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jewel. All would most likely make you very happy(most guys anyway) but some prefer one over the other. I'm sure Jennifer Connely would make most of you happy, but for some(like me) she would be the second choice(after wife
