Hello guys im having a problem with my stereo. I recently installed two 12" into my Jetta and everytime I blast it my fuse blows up. WHY? any idea??? just so you know my wires are thick enough for my amp.

Re: Why my Fuse blew UP? (StingerKod)

You need to check the subs with an ohm meter. You can get a decent one from Radio Shack for $20 or so.
Disconnect the subs from the amp and check the impeadance with the meter. If your subs are rated at 4ohms,they shouldn't measure much lower then that.If they each measure 3ohms or less, that's the problem.

What fuse are you referring to? The fuse at your battery or the fuse on your amp? If it's on your amp, check the ground. Make sure that it's connected directly to the chassis of the car with all the paint stripped around the screw. This is most likely your problem.

Stinger says that his fuse blows when he cranks the system. So,if the fuse blows only when the volume is turned up,it probably is a problem with one or both subs.Still could also be a problem with the amp.

MADBUG and others thanks for the help. But saddly I still havn`t figure out what the problem is... the fuse its keep on blowing up is the one from the battery. Out of curiously could my fuse be too weak? how strong should it be? I tried 30 and 60 i believe. I can`t wait till i full blast my music! need help! Thanks people I feel the VW love! Peace!

My $.02, check the wiring again. I had a Crossfire 1000d running on 8 guage wire and it hit just fine till I cranked it... then the fuse would blow. Also make sure you are using the right size fuse for the size of wire you are running.

Yeah,it kinda seems to me like you might be using the wrong fuse value.Look it up in the owners manual. If you don't have one,see if you can get it online or try calling the manufacture.
Also,is your power and ground cables the same gauge? Not too sure that will cause the fuse to blow, but you may as well make sure.

quote:

Um, yes a bad ground would cause a fuse to blow. You are largely mistaken. If the fuse didn't blow with a bad ground, you'd have a fried audio component.

The only thing a "bad" ground causes is intermittent system performance.
A poor ground location (but good electrical contact) can be a source of noise if your amplifier has poor ground isolation, but even cheap amplifiers don't have a problem with this these days.

ive seen grounds and the power side both cause fuses to blow, not only on stereo equipment, like when you have a loose coonection, the on off cycling heats things up pop,,bad connection also doesnt allow the system thats operating to see the full system voltage,,,,,it may be your problem,,but i doubt it,,im not really into car audio

I don't know how many ways to say this!! A bad/loose ground WILL NOT cause a fuse to blow!! This will cause an open circuit condition. That means no current flow from + to -, or way less current flow then is normal.
Fuses don't blow because of a reduction or cesation in current flow. They blow cause there is too much current flow, which normally means there's a short circuit somewhere on the + power line.

ok, i have no idea what im talking about ,i dont wanna get this thing all blown out with crazy theory, and watch out for loose fuseholders(an interuption in power flow/bad connection) they can/do cause blown fuses(hmm sounds like a bad connection to me
),,i already said thats not his problem,i dont know what his problem is,hell i may not be an audiohead, but im sure being an electrical engineer that performs failure analysis on computer chips for east fishkill ibm must count for something,,no i dont have a clue on what im talking about,an amp+some wiring isnt that big a deal,,bust out a good fluke(meter for those w/out a clue) and go to town, shouldnt be that big a deal,,even better, sometimes you can even get the "internal" wiring diagrams,,,lets leave this open for someone to get this guy some info
