Ok, i am doing a bit of tuning up on my 1991 vw gti 2.0l 16v cis-e montronic. I want to do the check the idle fuel mixture but in the bentley it states idle during adjustment should be at 800 to 1000 rpms. Mine idles at 1200 rpms constantly. I have never seen it below that. What is wrong? or can i still adjust the fuel mixture to proper settings. BTW my motor has 264's PnP 50mm intake and exhaust, k+n and chip. what is the deal?????
Thanks for any help.

You bought this car from Mabe, right? If so, I wouldn't touch the fuel mixture. I bet it's already set perfect. The mixture hardly ever goes out of whack on a motronic car, unless it's messed with.
Your idle problem is either corroded contacts, a vacuum leak, or a bad 02 sensor.

Yea i did buy it from mabe. Veedubs03 bought it from mabe which actually is me, but i am on my roommates computer and too lazy to switch to my vortex login on his computer
do you know much about his car? I am about to throw a header on it this week. How do or where would you check the idle fuel mixture anyways? I would like to see how it is anyways...

Go to my site. There's complete instructions.
Remember, if the mixture is off, check for vacuum leaks BEFORE changing the mixture. Like I said, it almost never goes out of whack.
Re: Why Why Why Why Why HELP (9A16V)

freaking vacuum leaks suck, i hate them, and can never find them. Some days the car will idle fine but then this morning it is all freaking whacky.
Re: Why Why Why Why Why HELP (veedubs03)

check your idle switches too, sounds like the idle switch on the throttle body is not engaging, giving you a high idle.

Good call. I unplugged mine once and the idle shot up. Also check coolant temp sensor and ISV valve
