Will an 8000 rpm tach work where a 7000 rpm one used to be?

I want to put the cluster from my 87 GLI into my 90. Will everything just hook up? They were both MFA. 87 had a 8000rpm tach vs. the 90's 7000 rpm one.

I guess. as long as the wires in the back are the same.
I have a 16v cluster in my 85 8v.
I had no problem hookin it up, but im not sure if your wireing is different or not
