you will most likely need spacers in the rear to clear the coilovers. that gives you about 5.6 inches of backspacing i think you will need to be closer to 5 inches or less backspacing to clear the suspension

What about a 16 by 7.5 wheel with an et of 40 ?? on my a3

I pritty sure they wont fit. Well at least not on my car. I have H&R coilovers with 17-8 et 35mm rims and and I had to use 8mm spacers in the rear to clear the suspension. With 8" wide rims I wouldn't go any smaller the a 35mm et
PS My friend has the Wolfsburg Edition 16" (et 42mm) rims on his mk3 VR6 and he had to use 5mm spacer to clear the stock front calipers.

WILL NOT FIT...i had an et of 41 on my 18x8 and wouldnt clear the coilover, need a 10mm spacer fronts wont work either, even with 35mm offset i still needed 10mm spacer....so i say if you run 15mm in the rear and a 10mm in the front that would be sick

Yeah I know I will have to convert to 5 lug , and then get h&r 5X112 adaptors to make them fit.
