Will et32 offset work on my gti?

1053 Views 24 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Aloha-boy
I'm in the middle of negotiating for a set of Audi TT 6 spokes and was previously told that they were 5x100 et35 so fitment would be perfect.. I jsut found out they are et32... will these fit? If not, what do I need to make em fit?

It will rub a little!! There was a post a couple days ago about a Ginster with 6 spoke wheels and he had some rubbin'..
Re: Will et32 offset work on my gti? (vr6_boyee)

Where exactly wil it rub? I guess it sounds pretty unsafe to run it with the rubbing.. what exactly do i need to make it fit without rubbing? I'm completely new to the idea of offsets.
Re: Will et32 offset work on my gti? (bobby_t1)

Yeah they'll work. It'll likely rub the fender liner - not a big deal. If the tire starts to show wear where it rubs, roll your fenders and you're fine again

I'm only lowered 1.5", so I'm assuming rubbing the fender liner is a non-issue then?

Looking for more specific feedback.. i want to ensure I can run these things without adverse effects before I shell out the bucks to get these shipped to me.

How's about this for specific feedback..... Here's a buddies ride, he only rubs on the front inner plastic fender. He's also dropped on H&R coilovers stage I!

17x7.5" Et32. Tires are 215/40-17. H&R coilovers. VR6 "plus" suspension.
I rub. I rub alot. Mainly the front plastic fender liners, but on occasion, the rear passenger side rubs on the inside of the fender lip. The front liners were rubbing so bad on the ride to Bug Out in September, that there was literally melted plastic oozing out of the wheel well.
The rear pass side tire has some grooveing along the top edge from making contact with the fender lip.

I am planning on rolling the fenders but am not spending money on the car right now, so until then, I have to raise the car, but I have been too lazy - lots of coulda, shoulda, woulda, huh?

I'm taking this as a sign that I may be okay, since I'll be running 205/40/17's on a 1.5" drop.. You look totally dumped in your picture and are runnign 215's.

Are the TT 5 spoke and 6 spoke both et32? I want to put the 6 spoke on but it looks like your friend is on 5 spokes

The key is 205's. 215's will rub! Yup the 5 spoke are et32. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I really should be a bit higher - the front of the car (even with the Projektzwo apron which is signifigantly higher than the OEM VW parts)scrapes my driveway lip coming and going not to mention the rubbing. I went with 215's because I wanted a slightly higher profile tire to help buffer and protect the Audi S3 wheels.
I'd recommend 5mm spacers out back - providing your drop allows it. Mine don't at the moment, but I have the spacers waiting for when I roll the fenders.

Well I ruled out 215 because I was told they would be too wide... but i really wanted to go 215's for the same reason as you did -- I want to protect the rims! But I'm hearing conflicting things about whether 215 is a good idea on a 1.5" drop on a mk3 gti vr6 with 17's.

Why would you want an additional 5mm? I already thought the et32 made it stick out 3mm more over teh et35 that was required?

As the car sits from VW, the rear wheels are further inward than the fronts. This becomes more noticable when your fronts are almost on the fender lip and the rears aren't. You'll see what I mean when you put the wheels on.

I'm thinking of a problem like this myself... how big of a project is fender rolling and what kind of cost is associated?

Will 3mm make that much of a difference? I thought 3mm was pretty insignificant...

Re: Will et32 offset work on my gti? (bobby_t1)

just cut allthe black stuff out of the fender liners and tape the electrical connecitons up and you'll be fine.
Re: Will et32 offset work on my gti? (blackmirrorVR6)

seems just a little ghetto... is there a way I can spend more money on this (body shop perhaps)?

Re: Will et32 offset work on my gti? (GTI451)

Yes usually body shops will gladly do this for you. Not sure what they will charge, but I can't see them spending more than an hour on it. Would be well worth it in my opinion if the body shop knows what they're doing. Good luck.
