anyone else try going to a dealer for service and get turned down?
i really didnt care though because he gave me the name of a decent shop to go to which i though was pretty cool but still...

I don't know about that(I wouldn't go to the dealer if my life depended on it) but that was very nice of him. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Re: Will your Dealer welcome your A2?? (eightvalvejettacarat)
oh at first I thought we were talking about selling the car at the dealer. Well I wouldn't know why the dealer wouldn't service it. But I wouldn't go to a dealer unless I was just wanting poor work, high prices, and to be jerked around. I know 1000 times about my car than the dealer. My dealer almost has no clue that VW even made my car. I mentioned the chassis code one time and I got "well I don't know anything about the chassis codes? What in the world? That just might be handy to know one of these days
Re: Will your Dealer welcome your A2?? (eightvalvejettacarat)
I say send VWoA an email about it... I sent them an email about the ***** at the larchmont dealership in NY and they responded http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I worked at a dealership this summer and was always BS'ing with the mechanics if you can call them that. I told them about my car the GTI with the VR6 turbo and they flat out told me it was impossible to do. After laughing for a while I went home got it and brought it in to show them. I was amazed at how little they cared about how they did there jobs. I asked them some questions about a 1.8t engine code awp and the differences between the awd motor. The guys responce was I just plug them into the computer it tells me whats wrong and I fix it I don't know to much about them. Needless to say my car is services by me. Dave

I took my car in to get the flywheel replaced. Motor oil leaked and seeped into the tranny case. So I take my 86 beater/92 spec GTX Jetta on the outside to the dealership, drove it with the service guy in the passenger's seat and you know what he quoted me for labour? $400 dollars for a flywheel replacement. Talk about overestimating his skill's worth. I couldn't believe they'd try to rip off a volkswagen owner. But alas the VW camaraderie only exists on private websites such as this. It leads me to think of the way ford treats its customers. Once you break something, it'll cost you 10% of the car's total worth to repair it. It's much worse when the car's brand new.
Re: Will your Dealer welcome your A2?? (JettaTournament)
Mine welcomed me fine when I showed up with the 'max car asking about recall check. The official chargeback to VWoA was $1029.80 or something.
In addition to the heater I ended up with a brand new fuel tank (but same old pumps, darnit). A lot of people around here drive older cars tho... One of the local autoparts guys describes here (he calls it Hayweird) this way, "97? that's still new. 87? alright, you're getting there... 77? okay, now it's kinda old."
Personally, I'm impressed that SC dealer is honest enough to admit they don't know how to work on the older dubs. I'd rather have them tell me it's too old for them than have them say "oh yeah, we can fix that" and then screw it up. That they knew of a local shop that could deserves some props. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
My Volkswagen dealer here is pretty cool..
When I bring my car in to have it worked on, I usually help the guy (its rare even to be allowed into the garage area at most server centers) and thus lower the labor charges (twice as many people working usually means half the time) and I get to use all the cool "proper tools"...
Try not to go very often tho. Their parts department is pretty nicely stocked too, never had to have them bring anything in from another dealership or anything.
Re: Will your Dealer welcome your A2?? (ottawanker)
If by "welcome" you mean greet me with terrible attitude and minimal customer service, then YES they welcome me with open arms!
the dealership around me don't have the time of day for anything older than 1995. They totally treat you like $hit when you tell them your car is 10 years old
Re: Will your Dealer welcome your A2?? (eightvalvejettacarat)
reminds me of when i called the dealership to get a new key made ,i said for an 85 Jetta and the guy say 85! as if its impossible for it to still be runnin lol
