Re: Wiring GURU's needed (1phtgti)

Easiest is to take an ENTIRE wiring harness from an 90+ Golf or 89+ Jetta. I mean everything going into the fusebox and then just replace your old one with it.
I've done it once. What I did was label all the wires and never disconnected them from the fusebox. It only took me 2 hrs to put it in, but the car I was putting it into already had the dash and carpet out.
It's fairly easy, go for it....also a Bentley helps in case you loose some labels or forget to label the CE2 harness.

Re: Wiring GURU's needed (marek)

what i do is pull the complete harness from the headlites allthe way back to the taillites and just install it takes about a 1/2 hr to pull all the old and about 2 1/2 hrs to reassemble it not really a big deal u dont have to pull much apart to swap and when u throw the harness down where its susposed to be all untangled and all the wires will point rite to where they go i dont mark anything its a just do it type thing ......all the plugs are different so u really cant hook it up wrong .....
one thing is i tape u p the plugs that arnt used in the car u removed the harness from that way u arnt looking for something to plug them into thats not there

I did it also and I was told I needed the instrument cluster, fuse box, all wiring from front to back. You will need to change your in-tank fuel pump mounting assembly and intank fuel pump ( got mine form a junk yard) Along with that you will need the new turn signal and windshield wiper stalks.. and to mount those you need the whole steering column w/ ignition housing and assembly from it as well because the mounting holes are different. You will have to cut the old plug of your coolant reservior and connect it to the CE2 wires for it. Those are just a few of the things I remember that I had to do...which nobody told me about before hand!

Re: Wiring GURU's needed (hoodita)

swapping is always harder than what people say...thats cause after the swapping is done its cool, you forget half of what you did, and to sound like the MAN you say...:
its easy, I did the VR6 turbo swap in the 79 rabbit in about 4 hours...It would have taken longer, but I installed the wiring harness over lunch the day before...
who wants to tell the truth, its so discouraging...:
It was hell, I had half the parts I needed, I have four wires left to connect somewhere, my tach moves with the turn signals, its still not RUNNING, and I'm out of $$
