Re: Wiring Question... a quick one. (GotHerFast)

Well i tried, but like you prolly found out a search for the fuse diagram on a MKV yields nil. I would guess that 'acc' stands for accessory power, which is the first click forward on the key switch that lets you run something like the air fan, etc, when the key is in that position. If your fuse panel is labelled (not sure) you will have to pick something logical that you suspect is an 'accessory' and tap the power in there. You can either splice the wire or if it is low current (i think it would be) you can just lift up the one end of the fuse and lay some nice clean copper from the new wire into the contact as you put the fuse back in. (like you do to wire in a radar detector) Have some spare fuses handy in case, tho... Good luck

I only have a MK4, but looking at the fuses an ideal place to splice into 'acc' power looks to be the rear window defroster fuse. The pic is similar to a square w. squiggles in it.

DAMN 4string- yes that is a big help!! That needs to go in the FAQ!
I ended up going a different route though as I did not have the correct size "add-a-circuit". Just for the record:
I used the red/black wire (+) and the brown (-) wire underneath the "lighter/socket" thingy. I ran the other wire right to the battery. Here are my results:

P.S.- VeeRSixx... you're funny. "Just" a MKIV. I read your first response I was shocked at how helpful the post was (before realizing it was you...) and thought the MKV forums have come to their senses.

In the MKV, they didn't put the handy dandy diagram, it's just a list like 4string put on here.... but thanks everyone for their help! (I owe you a radar detector, huh?)

That is one huge list and definitely needs to be added to the FAQ. In particular, fuse # 27 (fuel pump) is good to know. I thought the best thing to do was to wire up to the lighter socket, but i'm not sure if that is switched 'accessory' power in the MKV or not.

A little plastic door swings open on the side of the dash. Not sure what side it would be on if you have a right hand drive car. You have to open the car door to see the door for the fuses. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
