Okay who the hell made my grille, the keebler elf? This thing is the biggest piece of poop I’ve ever come across, it’s like LINCOLN LOGS. ITS CLIPPED ON THERE AND ITS CLIPPED there is nothing other than clips holding my grille.
The other nite I came back from school, and looked at my grille and it was loose so I clipped it back on, I had the hood open and then proceeded to shut the hood, it came unclipped, I was like "is this for real" I took a big ass sledghammer and starting beating the poop out of the grille it kept snapping off the clips once again I was like "is this for real". At this point I am laughing hysterically at the design or the grille and how illogical it is to have a grille clipped on with weak ass plastic, as I am laughing at the grille I give it a tap the whole grille clunked to the floor, oh wow this is getting good so I line it back up , I muttered "you like it you piece of poop plastic what a design you are HAHAHAHAH" I took my staple gun to the top part of the grille injected staples into it, it kept getting unclipped! OH MY GOD THANK U VW FOR A STUPID GRILLE DESIGN, MY GRILLE IS NOW HELD ON WITH TWISTIE TIES AND TETHER ROPE, ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS HOW TO MAKE THE GRILL STAY ON THE CAR, LIKE OTHER VEHICLES, IM SORRY IM MORE INTO GO THAN SHOW, BUT I WOULD LIKE A FRONT GRILLE TO STAY ON MY CAR!!
twistie ties, zip ties same thing! we shouldnt have to use trash bag ties to hold a part on the car, its sooo GHETOO. oh well may just leave the grill off
Yeah, the vw grilles suck. I've had nothing but frustration with them. Couldnt they have just made them fit the contour of the car from the factory instead of using those lame clips to hold the shape. All my grilles have been ziptied after one or two removals.
thats what i've been sporting since wednesday bro! I'm swaping my dual round gti grill for vw problems single round and ive been cruising around with just my 7" h4's all by themselves. it looks good man. dont let anyone tell you otherwise. screw hood scoops. go for no girll.
j/k
but serisously tho it looks like crap w/o my grill
Re: wow my grille is a piece of $hit. (eastcoastdubs)
have your grille ever popped when you were driving??
it happenned to me once, ok it was aggressive rally driving so after a few bumps it popped and i rolled over it, after that i had only two freakin little plastic clip to hold the grille!!!!!!!!!!!!! but after a few
Tie it on with haywire.
Thats what I did with my 85'spec-million-slat grille.
I just like saying it "haywire"
I havent had a problem with the clips on my 3-slat one yet, none have bent or broke, and I have yet to use screws or "haywire"
After I hit a deer TWICE at 65mph I had to get a new grill and also am using tip ties. Yea I dont think im going to drive my Jetta at night ever again. The deer cost me at least $500 dollars in damages.(hood, fenders, radiator, radiator support, both radiator hoses, grill, quad lights, blinkers.cooling fan and shroud)
Apparently the early grills dont have the screws? My 92 Grill has 2 screw holes on the top and just 2 clips. It takes 30 seconds to take off and 30 to put back on.
Mine's doing pretty good for being nearly 10 years old.
Matt
Okay, now I am curious - when you hit it the first time, were you so pissed off that you had to turn around, get back up to speed and hit it again?

Isn't it obvious? He clearly said AT NIGHT. Obviously, he was out for a night of dancing and driving, and the deer was messing with him. Stupid thing was probably drunk and tried to hit on his girl or something. Honor required no less. One hit wasn't enough of a lesson.

poop, yea i know my quad grille is (was) held on by two tiny screws and clips just like you mentioned. I saw [was] because while changing my headlight bulb, one of the tiny screws fell off, but havent had misfortunes like you have had, yea true ****ty design on the grille, I guess VW left the subcontracting of their grilles up to NOPI or some poop
Actually, now that I am reading this again, I think that not only was he out for a night of drinking and dancing, but he brought the deer along with him - how else could he hit him twice at 65mph? Obviously they had been out "wining and dining" at some local restaurant and were all headed home in his Jetta when the deer, being a bit tipsy, made some nasty comment. Hoodita, being a gentleman, politely asked the deer to knock it off, whereupon the deer made another rude remark and Hoodita clobbered him, not once, but TWICE, resulting in him running off the road and causing the front end damage.
