I have a 1994 Jetta 2.0L 8V and am getting a "knocking" noise from the engine bay
. I could have sworn that it was the crank bearings but after changing them the noise was still there. It can only be heard from about 2200RPM and only in first, second and sometimes third gear. I am running an Autotech 270 cam and Q-Chip on an otherwise stock motor. A friend of mine has the same noise in his 2.0L but not as loud. Any ideas on the cause of this noise?

Oh yeah...I only get the noise under acceleration, none at idle or decelleration.

doesn't sound right.... usually bottom end noise is more prominent under decel....
might be something else.

have any power loss? smoking? is so, is it white? blue? black?
are you throwing any codes? CE light coming on?

and is it still under warranty??

Re: Wrist Pins? (VolkSchnell-GTI)

I am getting CE codes but have not checked them yet. No smoke at all and certainly no loss in power. With a 1994 at 100700 miles, with engine mods and who knows what number owner...the word warranty is out the window

Re: Wrist Pins? (JPawn1)

Well my buddy has a 2.0L in his A2 and is getting the same noise (not as loud though). I am curious as to if it is a typical sound from a high mileage 2.0L.
